We will first secure your property by boarding up and covering all openings and tarp the roof structure, if needed. We then work with your insurance adjuster to start the process of cleaning up and rebuilding your property.

DO’s after a fire:
DO contact your insurance company or insurance agent to immediately file a claim. This step will alert your insurance company about the loss and will allow them to assign an insurance adjuster who will set your claim process in motion. The adjuster will walk you through the process of finding temporary living quarters and meeting other immediate needs.
DO wait for the fire department to provide you with clearance before re-entering your home or business after a fire.
DO make arrangements to protect your property from further damage or theft. This should include boarding up broken windows or doors, providing temporary power, and drying down the building to prevent additional water damage or mold. As a Midwest Restoration client, our trained technicians will do this step for you.
DO take with you any valuables such as jewelry, cash and/or credit cards if your home is uninhabitable.
DO keep all receipts for your additional living expenses resulting from the fire loss, which may include hotel receipts, food purchase, etc.
DON’Ts after a fire:
DON’T enter your property until you have been given permission by a qualified inspector or fire department who has deemed it safe for re-entry.
DON’T disturb the origin of the fire. Your insurance company will want to make a determination as to the cause and origin of the fire.
DON’T throw away anything damaged by the fire. If you do not have documentation of your loss, you may not be compensated for that loss.
DON’T enter the premises if you have any pre-existing medical conditions that may be aggravated by charred conditions or smoke odor inside.
