  • How long will the restoration process take?

Because fire and smoke restoration involve a lot of different procedures, it’s difficult to determine exactly how long the restoration process will take. For an accurate estimate, please call or text Midwest Restoration. We’ll visit your property, assess the damage, and provide an estimate for the restoration process.

  • Can I clean it myself?

We advise against attempting to cleaning anything yourself without consulting one of our technicians. Each technician at Midwest Restoration is equipped to perform pretests, select the appropriate cleaning agents, combine deodorizing agents, and ensure correct dilution rates. Relying on the professionals to do the restoration work will increase the likelihood of fully restoring your belongings.

  • Can I turn on my heating and air conditioning unit?

We advise against running your furnace or air conditioning unit until you’ve spoken with a Midwest Restoration representative.

  • What items do I keep in my possession and how do I keep track of non-restorable items?

    Items you can keep include:

    • Cash
    • Medications
    • Valuable jewelry
    • Checkbooks
    • Personal documents
    • Flammables
    • Pets
    • Weapons/ammunitions
    • Gasoline cans
    • Stamps/coin collections

To keep track of non-restorable items, we suggest creating a list. You can use a similar format to the example list or to the one provided by your insurance company. Remember to make a copy for your insurance company and one for yourself.

  • Will I have access to my belongings while they are in storage?

If you provide us with advanced notice, we can arrange a meeting between you and your Midwest Restoration project manager who can give you access to your requested items. Please note that there may be a service charge.

If you have questions about your insurance, please direct them to your insurance agent or claims representative. This will ensure that you receive the most accurate answers.

  • What does pre-loss condition mean?

At Midwest Restoration, our goal is to restore your home and your possessions to their pre-loss condition, which is the state they were in before the damage took place. We do this by utilizing materials that are similar in kind and quality. Please note that there may be some pre-existing damage that’s not included in the repairs for your current loss.

If you have any other non-insured renovation projects that you’d like to complete, please let us know, and we’ll provide you with an estimate.

  • Do I need a permit?

Your Midwest Restoration project manager will obtain the required permit(s) on your behalf. If fees apply to any of the permits, they will be included in the estimate. Please note that your insurance company may cover these fees.

  • Will I have to be home all the time?

No. You can maintain your daily routine while our team works to restore the damage. To facilitate site access, you can choose one of two options:

    • Provide your Midwest Restoration project manager with a key
    • Choose to have a lock box installed on the property
  • What is a code or by-law upgrade?

Upgrades are required when your home’s pre-loss condition no longer complies with current building codes. Your insurance estimator may acknowledge these code upgrades during the estimation process. If you have concerns about code upgrades, please reach out to your insurance adjuster for guidance. They will be able to provide you with advice regarding this matter.
